EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT BREAKFAST BRIEFING
With Brian Simpson MEP
8.00 - 9.00, 13 October 2010 Members Salon No.4, European Parliament Rue Wiertz 60, 1047 Brussels
Testing the quality and safety of Europe's Mobility Infrastructure
This breakfast briefing is the first presentation of the EuroTest and EuroTAP programmes to parliamentarians elected in 2009. The aim would be to familiarise members of the Transport & Tourism (TRAN), Environment (ENVI) and Internal Market & Consumer (IMCO) committees with the work of EuroTest and the participating automobile clubs in order to create awareness about their value and how they might contribute to currently policy debates.
Safe and sustainable mobility is the priority for the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) automobile clubs in Europe, in particular for the 35 million citizens they have as members. Through EuroTest, automobile clubs have been benchmarking the safety and quality of Europe's mobility infrastructure and services since 1999 in order to help mobile consumers make informed choices about their personal mobility.
EuroTest findings are relevant to various debates currently discussed in Brussels and in Parliament. As such they contributed to FIA positions on a number of topics, for example, the European Road Safety strategy, the White Paper on The Future Of Transport and the Urban Mobility Action Plan.
