User Friendly Information Goes Online about Europe 50 Most Frequented Road Tunnels
AIT & FIA launched today, (19th May 2004) the "Safe Tunnels" Web pages providing user friendly information about Europe’s 50 most frequented tunnels located on the Trans European Road Network (TERN).
Anyone planning a road trip who logs into www.eurotestmobility.com will be able to check out the most important data about selected tunnels on their route. This data includes a short description of the tunnel, a map showing the roads leading to and from the tunnel, a picture of the entrance as well as safety features possessed by the tunnel and traffic information.
These 50 web pages are the second measure of a European wide Campaign, The Safe Tunnels Campaign, lead by the ADAC which kicked off with the publication last month of the results of the 2004 Tunnel Test. This test rated 20 of Europe’s tunnels from good to poor. Other participants in this campaign include 10 motoring clubs form 9 different countries together with the AIT & FIA Brussels office.
"We believe an informed motorist is a safer motorist." said Caroline Ofoegbu Director EU Affairs at the AIT&FIA office in Brussels, "The updated information provided in these web pages offers a useful tool for anyone embarking on a road trip including one of these major tunnels and particularly for those using the tunnel in question for the first time".
